Common Questions About Sharing Albums

Sharing Overview
When you invite friends to see your online photos, we send an email invitation to them on your behalf. The email contains the following:
  • The name of the photo or albums shared
  • Step-by-step instructions on how to view your shared photos
  • A personalized message (if you wish)
Your friends click on a link within the email, which brings them to the Snapfish website. There, they're asked to type in their email address and choose a password. This ensures the privacy of your photos and creates new Snapfish accounts for your friends, with viewing privileges for just the photos you invited them to see. In addition to being able to see all of your shared photos, your friends can easily order their own reprints or enlargements at no cost to you.

Sharing photos is entirely free.

Sharing in Group Rooms

If you’d like to share photos or projects with more than one person at a time, you can place them in a group room. A group room is a unique url (or Web page) where you – and whomever you invite – can add photos and projects and post messages.

Any member of a group room can add photos, projects, and messages, and all members of the room can see all of the photos, projects, and messages posted there. In addition, members can order prints and create gifts from the photos posted in the room.

Group rooms can be made secure through password protection or can be left open for anyone (who has the url) to join.

Guest book
Overview
The guest book is a fun way for you and your friends to have a conversation about the photos you share. Each of the albums in your account has a guest book. To access an album's guest book, follow these steps:
  1. Log in to your account, and click on the album you want to view.
  2. If you're on one of your own albums, click on the 'view guest book' link, located beneath the blue menu at the right of the page.
  3. You can also access the guest book when viewing a single photo in the enlarged view.

Once you're in the guest book of an album of your own, you can:

  • see how many people have viewed your album
  • add comments of your own
  • remove individual friends' comments
  • de-activate your guest book, preventing friends from accessing that album's guest book
  • re-activate it if it was previously de-activated
Friends' albums in your account also have guest books. If their guest book is active, you can read others' comments and add your own by clicking on the 'add your comments' link.

Note: Any changes you make to a guest book, such as de-activating it, apply only to that guest book and not your other albums' guest books.

How to use the guest book
Whenever a new album is added to your account (either from film developing, photos you upload, or from moving/copying photos into a new album), a guest book for that album is created.

When you share that album with friends, your guest book is automatically shared. When your friends log in to view your album, they can click on the 'guest book' link while viewing your photos to read or add their own comments.

For example, if you share an album with your Uncle Jack and Grandma Beth, both of them can add comments, and they can read each other's comments. As the album owner, you can also add your own comments.

De-activating your guest book
If you'd like to prevent friends from reading and/or adding comments about your album, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to your account, and click on the album you want to view.
  2. Then click on the 'guest book' link, located beneath the blue menu at the right of the page.
  3. A pop-up window will appear.
  4. Click 'close guest book to visitors.'

You can do this before you share the album or any time after you share the album. As the album owner, you'll still have access to the guest book, but friends with whom you share the album will not be able to access it.

De-activating your guest book does not permanently delete the comments that are in it, but it does prevent friends with whom you shared from viewing it. To remove individual comments, click the 'remove' link under each comment.

Sharing Photos, Albums, and Projects

Who can I share my photos, albums, and projects with?
You can share your photos, albums, and projects with anyone who has an email address and can see Web pages.

Can I share one photo from an album?
Yes, you can. To share a single photo while viewing your album, click 'share' in the blue menu on the right side of the page. Then click 'share a photo' or 'share this photo.'

Can I share more than one album at a time?
Yes, you can. To share multiple albums at one time, click the 'photos' tab at the top of any page to return to your photo library. From there, click 'share' in the blue menu on the right side of the page. Then click 'share albums.'

Can I share only certain photos from an album, or do I have to share the whole thing?
When you share an album, your friends will see the entire album. However, before sharing an album, you can decide which photos will stay in that album. To move photos, click 'edit & organize' in the blue menu on the right side of the page. Then click 'move photos' in the menu that appears below.

Why can’t I share my calendar?
Right now, you can share photos, albums, and photobooks with friends and family members. Soon, you will also be able to share calendars. We are currently working to add this feature.

The Invitation to Share

What does the album invite look like when my friends receive it?
The 'From' line on the email will be the first and last name on your Snapfish account. The 'To' line on the email will contain only the email address of an individual recipient. This means that recipients of a share email will not be able to see the email addresses of everyone else to whom you sent the share invitation.

The 'Subject' line of the email is standardized, or it can contain whatever you decide to enter. The main part of the email will contain the personalized message that you typed in, plus instructions on how to see your photo or album(s) and a link to your photos.

If your recipients are able to view HTML-formatted emails, they will also see a preview of the photo(s) you shared with them. When you share an album, the first photo in the album will appear in the invitation email. When you share a single photo, the photo will appear in the invitation email.

Will the invitation email tell my invited friends what to do?
The email contains instructions that tell your recipients exactly how to see your pictures. All your recipients need to do is click on the link provided in the email and then type in their email address and choose a password. You can add your own personal message to the invitation as well.

Are there any email attachments involved?
There are no attachments to emails sent from the Snapfish website. The pictures your friends see are securely stored in the Snapfish computer system, and they are viewed on the Snapfish website.

When your friends receive the share invite email from you, they will click on a link that brings them to the Snapfish website. They will then enter their email and password to create their own Snapfish account. From there, they will view your photos.

Can I write a personal message or change anything in the invitation?
You can personalize the subject line and main message that will be sent to your recipients when you invite them to see your photo or album(s). The instructions on how to see your photos cannot be changed.

How do I change my mind about sharing if I'm in the middle of the process?
Just click the gray 'cancel' button, and you will be returned to your library. The invitation email will not be sent.

How do I know the invitation was sent?
You can choose to receive a copy of the email by checking the box next to 'Send me a copy of this email' after you've selected your recipients. You will also see a confirmation page that contains the name of the album(s) or photo and the list of email addresses from the invitation. If you want to keep a record of the people you've shared with, you can print this confirmation page.

After Sharing

Once I've shared a photo or album(s), what can my friends do with it?
By signing in to Snapfish using an email address and a password, your friends can see the album anytime, plus order reprints and enlargements of any pictures they choose. Your friends cannot move, edit, re-caption, or delete the photos within your album. As the album owner, only you have the ability to make changes to your album.

Can people I share with order reprints? Who pays for them?
Yes, anyone you share a photo or album(s) with can order reprints on their own, at no cost to you! When they order reprints, they will submit their own billing information. You will never be charged for an order that someone else places.

What do you do with the names of people I share with?
The email addresses are added to your Snapfish address book, so you can share albums again without having to re-type email addresses. Snapfish will never use the email address of anyone you share with in any way other than to send an email invitation to share the album you selected.

Making changes to a shared album

If I share an album and then make changes to it, can my friends see the changes?
Yes. You still own your album; your recipients just have an invitation to see it. So your albums are always under your control. If you want to add photos to an album, update photo captions or the name of the album, rotate photos, or delete them, then your invited recipients will see the same changes in your album the next time they view it.

When I share an album, can other people make changes to it?
No. Only the album's original owner can make changes to the album.

If I share an album and then choose to delete it, can invited friends still see the album in their own accounts?
No. After you delete an album, the recipients you have invited to see the album will no longer be able to see it.

I've shared an album, but don't want anyone to see it anymore. What can I do?
If you've already shared an album with friends, the only way you can prevent them from seeing it is by deleting it. One way you can do this without losing the photos is to move all the pictures into a new album and then delete the old, empty album.

Privacy of your photos

Why do my friends have to sign up when I share my pictures with them?
Asking your friends to create their own account by typing in their email address and choosing a password ensures the privacy and security of your pictures.

When I share with someone, do they have access to my account and other albums?
Absolutely not! When you share an album or photos with a friend, only that specific album or photo can be seen by your friend. The photo(s) is viewed in your friend's own password-protected account on the Snapfish site.

The only person with access to your account is you. Your friends create their own accounts by typing in their email addresses and selecting passwords. From their accounts, they will have viewing privileges only for the photo(s) you shared with them, and any albums that they themselves create.

Can the public see my pictures?
No. The only people who see your photo(s) are those people who receive an email invitation from you to see the photo(s). If you've given permission for your friends to re-share your album, they can also share it with others.
